In 2024, I need to read more books.
In 2023, I wanted to develop an AI-based summarization tool for reading more books together with others by converting them into mind maps. Due to various reasons, the project was put on hold and ended up wasting a lot of time, resulting in me barely reading about 10 books.
Considering ways to improve using AI for better reading, and thinking about:
- Reading more books in shorter time
- Enhancing understanding
- Connecting knowledge
- Optimizing note-taking and retrieval
- Continuous learning and adaptation
So far, I can think of a few points:
- Not expecting others to develop this tool (can not develop it myself due to time limitations either).
- Developing a simpler version of the text splitting and summarization tool using local LLMs. (e.g. with Llama.cpp and mistral 7b)
- Study Obsidian and Logseq, choose one as a personal knowledge management tool integrated with an AI API. Considering Logseq seems more suitable for connecting knowledge, but further research is required. (now I changed my mind. Obsidian is prettier.) I also use Notion, and I like it. However, I still hope that these reading notes can be saved locally instead of in the cloud.
- Regrettably, reading less books was my biggest disappointment in 2023.
